Advanced Science Discovery --
Experimentation and Cool Science

Science is all about exploring curiosity and seeing where it takes us. With the knowledge of the scientific method, older campers ages 9+ will perform more complex experiments related to temperature, gardens, and the world around us. Campers will take experiments one step further by adjusting experiments with the addition of materials and with the development of inventions and scientific proofs and prototypes.

Ms. Kianna Cooper is skilled in many scholarly fields including STEM, History, and the Social Sciences with specialized skills in sociological research methods. She has over ten years of experience in the education and afterschool field, and is an expert in teaching. She believes education is a right and not a privilege, and through education, the world can be changed.

When Kianna isn’t teaching, you might find her hanging out at East Side Artist Gallery, or running her photography business, capturing landscape and portrait photography. Or you may find her putting pen to paper (or finger to key) and working on a novel. She enjoys watching her fish swim around in their tank and spending time with her parents and husband, whether it’s shopping, hiking, or just enjoying a cup of coffee in a cafe. Kianna got her Bachelors of Science from Towson University in Sociology and Anthropology, and is working on her Master of Science in Crime Scene Investigation with Stevenson University. Once she graduates, she hopes to pursue her doctorate degree in Sociology or Criminology.

AI & Lego Robotics Adv.

The Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning course will teach your child ages 10+ the most popular subject in the STEM industry! Students will work with a STEM professional to explore the foundations of AI and ideas of machine learning. By the completion of the course, students will have learned how to customize robots using the Lego EV3 technology, preparing their children for the future of the STEM industry.

Mr. Ollie Hardy is a MCPS Technology Teacher who loves what he does. Throughout his 17 year teaching career, Ollie has taught a variety of courses including Engineering, Game Design, Web Design, Lego Robotics & Computer-Aided Drafting Design. Mr. H (as his students call him) has taught grades 6-12 at a variety of Middle Schools and High Schools in Montgomery County. Digital Art - Graphic Designer & illustration

Experience a professional way to make art with this Advanced digital art course! Campers ages 9+ will use various artistic design applications and programs to explore and create still graphics and works of art on a computer. Campers will complete the course with knowledge on editing photos, the nuances of typography (which is a major component of graphic design), layout of images and how images and text are compiled together. If your child wants to find another unique way to show their creative side they will enjoy this digital art course and walk away with hard copies and digital files of their work.

Ms. Aehyun (Anne) Noh has experience as a freelance 3D Modeler in addition to years of experience in other digital art programs. She is currently working as a Framer at a Michaels store. Junior Intro to Coding - Scratch & Unplugged

Give your child the chance to learn the coding process of thinking that is becoming very important in our society! In this introduction to the coding course, campers will learn basic programming concepts through courses on unplugged and scratch. Through the various coding projects, campers will explore different coding ideas and develop problem-solving skills that they can use in more advanced coding courses.

He has been volunteering at CCACC since he was in 7th grade and is glad to finally be a part of the staff who run the camp. His college goals are to become a lab intern, and eventually get a doctorate in pharmacy.

Candy & Water Experimentation

It’s time to ignite a passion for science in your child! Campers ages 6 to 9 can enjoy a fun exploration of how science interacts with us on a daily basis. Budding scientists in this course will work on a variety of fun experiments and will follow the scientific process from hypothesis to conclusion to get a better understanding of the scientific world. In addition to learning about chemistry, campers will explore other fields of science including physics and engineering!

Lego League Challenger Team Coach / Science Invention

FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. CCACC Academy wants to support participants in gaining real-world problem-solving experiences through the guidance of our experienced Lego Robotics Coaches. CCACC Academy wants our students to have the confidence to present on the global robotics level.

Ms. Mulan Liu is a rising college freshman, and she will be majoring in Computer Science at UW-Madison. She graduated from the SMCS program at Poolesville High School this spring and has a great interest in technology. More specifically, Mulan is curious about robotics and artificial intelligence, and has participated in FLL and FRC teams, but she also looks forward to learning about other applications of computer science. She enjoys playing table tennis, listening to music, and taking walks in her free time.

Lego Robotics Jr & Rubiks Cube

Give your child a fun, hands-on introduction to engineering and mathematical concepts! Projects in this camp will include problem-solving and basic robotic construction skills with the use of Everstorm Lego Kit and Mindcuber Lego Robot. Once constructed, students will learn how to code the robots to solve Lego Rubik’s cubes and other problem-solving puzzles. Students will complete the course with knowledge of how to debug basic code and a basic understanding of robotics.

Lego Robotics Jr - Simple Machine

The Jr Simple Machines course includes everything you need to inspire elementary students ages 6+ to learn basic machine mechanics. Ignite your children’s desire to learn about the world of science and engineering concepts with a wide selection of engaging activities, including Observing and investigating machines, following design briefs, and working with reasoning, predicting, reflecting, and critical thinking.

Minecraft Adv - 3D Modeling in Digital World

Minecraft, a massive open-world game that is known for teaching creativity, can also be used to strengthen digital literacy and understanding of game coding. With guidance from a STEM education professional and the use of Minecraft education software, campers will code and create a Minecraft world filled with coded virtual word puzzles. Students will work individually and in teams to explore these worlds and solve virtual problems. The skills your child will walk away with can be applied to understanding how to develop complete games in the future.

A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.F.A in Communication Arts, Mr. Simbisai Kahari has been passionate about STEAM & STEM education and has led CCACC Academy’s science and technology-related programs. In addition to teaching, Simbisai has painted and illustrated for over ten years, and designed (Graphic & Web Design) for the past three years. Simbisai currently resides in DC teaching robotics and technology. Through Minecraft education, young learners will enhance their creative problem-solving skills. Microsoft has provided additional lessons that complement coding and coding syntax. Python Coding & Applications - Retro Graphics & Games

Python is a programming language that prioritizes readability and learnability and lets you integrate systems more effectively. As Python is one of the most widely used languages in the programming world to help beginners and professionals write clear and logical small or large-scale projects, it is an essential skill for any young programmer to pick up. Campers will start by learning the basics of inputting data and creating an output system, where they will be able to code their own graphics, games, programs, and applications. Experience activities such as coding popular retro games to creating a DIY external controller, this course is made for any child aged 9+ that wishes to explore game development and logical problem-solving skills!

Science in Literacy

Give your child the gift of STEM knowledge using the unique method of literacy! Students ages 6 to 9 will participate in age-appropriate engineering challenges and experiments based on literature. Each lesson will be backed by picture books and materials that lend to a more comprehensive understanding of the subject. Through this, students will gain authentic contextual STEM experience and improve their literacy skills through this. Sample activities include creating a hamster habitat, designing a toy box, creating a balloon parade, and more.

Ms. Tanijah Moore is looking forward to working with campers and fellow staff. She is excited about the opportunity to build self-confidence and critical thinking skills in children while helping them expand their budding interests in science, technology, engineering, and math. This is her first summer at CCACC Academy. Her goal is to ensure that the campers have a great time at CCACC as they learn and try new activities, have fun, and develop as individuals. With over 8 years of experience in working with children, Tanijah is looking forward to applying her unique combination of skills to the camp experience. The Shell Script Coding course offers a more in-depth investigation of coding for students eight years or older, as they learn to work in a coding environment used by professionals every day! YouTuber, Podcasters & Vlogger -
New Media & Video Editing

Knowing how video production works is a skill that will equip your child to stand out in their future career. With YouTuber Video Production and Storytelling, students will build confidence in self-expression through vlogging their daily experiences and video editing them to present the narrative they want to showcase to the world. All scholars will learn all the basics of developing a video, from scripting the stories to recording the sketches to editing the video for presentation. Students will learn what it is like to build YouTube video content and have a private channel for friends and family to enjoy!

Mr. Josua Saull is a recent graduate from Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts with a certificate in Video Production. One such video project is featured on the Smithsonian Institute’s website and was hosted at the Howard County Historical Society. In his spare time, Josua writes scripts for upcoming projects of his. He looks forward to showing the world his art and leaving an impact through video.
